Come along to read more about my systems that work for me.
A Mum with a full life.
Mumm-ing, teach-ing, farm business-ing.
My bandwith is limited.
But getting my kids tummy's filled with nutritious foods is so important to me.
As I know the food our kids eat is growing their brains.
Growing strong brains is something that I have a passion for.
So I have put effort into making good food from scratch happen for my family.
My cooking systems
Defrost meat weekly. I take meat out of your freezer once a week for our family meals the week ahead. Place meat in the coming weeks into a casserole dish in your fridge to defrost. If the weeks calendar ahead is looking particularly full, I take a white board marker and write the name of the planned meal on the glass or ceramic dish that the meat is defrosting in.
A meal list. Plan a list of meals from the meats you have put into the fridge to defrost. I use a little white board from kmart, with days of the week for this. Write other ingredients needed on the shopping list. For a trip to Foodland or place a grocery order.
A well stocked pantry. A well stocked pantry with staples for example, tinned tomatoes and veg, pasta, rice, spices, potatoes, onions, garlic, flours, nuts and dried fruits etc. This all is part of what helps me easily whip up family meals with Grass Fed Meats from our freezer, that are grown on our family farm.
Cook once and eat twice. Make a large batch of your recipe. Refridgerate the leftovers. Use a white board marker to write the name of the meal on the glass dish. In our home, this increases the chance of leftovers being eaten 10 fold. It helps me remember what is in the glass dish. As well as telling all my other family members what is in there too!
Bulk Cook and Store Meals in Fridge. Often on a Monday evening, I have a few meals cooking at the same time. Then I store these in the fridge ready for oven reheating. On evening that we come home after a day at my day job or for a quick (non-takeaway) tea after evening sports. The biggest joy of these evenings is (almost) no dishes. Just the quick plates and cutlery we ate our meal from. And a little time at the kitchen table with my kids for a game of uno or playing and chatting with kids.
My storage systems
Grass Fed Beef Cuts packaged in cryovac packaging is my number one tip. Easy packing away in there freezer, straight out the box. For long lasting storage and freshness. Good news for you, is that our butcher cryovacs our Quarter of Beef Boxes for you. Buying Grass Fed Beef from our farm means that this is all taken care of for you.
Organise meat in the freezer by categories. Using draws, baskets or boxes in the freezer. I have a draw for beef slow cook, a draw for beef steaks, a draw for sausages/burgers/mince. Plus a draw for lamb slow cook and a draw for lamb chops and mince. I find an organised system like this helps me find what meat I need quickly before any chance of frozen finger tips!
