My hope for our farm supporting the Dolly’s Dream Charity DO IT FOR DOLLY DAY in 2025 is :
If one child is faced with the challenge of online bullying, they have one place front of mind to turn for help.
That if one family is impacted by the challenge of the online world in their parenting, they have the flash of Dolly blue front of mind. And reach to the online resources or phone help line.
For us, this is not about Beef Boxes.
For us, this is about getting the message out to kids and families. So if or when each family needs it. They have a place of support at front of mind, to turn to.
Dolly’s Dream Charity helps kids and families by programs including :
School workshops - interactive judgement-free workshops that teach students about anti-bullying and digital safety.
Beacon Cyber Safety App - practical tools and trusted resources to help families navigate technology and reduce online harms.
Parent Hub - A one stop resource for reliable advice on bullying and online safety, making family life a little easier.
24/7 Support Line - Free confidential counselling for families and children, ensuring help is always within reach.
Mental Health First Aid Training - Training community members to better respond to mental health challenges and build resilience.

This week I have had 3 separate conversations with parents about their parenting challenges of their kids in the online world.
I did not bring up about Do it for Dolly Day.
This IS what parents are talking about.
What is right for their kids with devices and online.
How much screen time is too much for their teenagers? What do they do when it is impacting on their kids in ways that changes who they are for the negative.
Kids getting into trouble at school by accessing things they shouldn’t on school computers.
How can parents do what feels right to them, but balance their worry about their kids being left behind by what appears to be the socials norm around smart phones for kids.
How can parents address personal safety for their kids as they are stepping out into the big wide world. Yet not bring the risks of the big wide world into their child’s pocket, bedroom and play/game time.
Parenting is a tough gig.
I have so much compassion for parents trying to do their best for their own kids.
These questions are complex and without a single right answer for every child or family.
For me, I am on the team “delay, delay, delay”.
Giving a kid a screen with access to the internet, can be like putting a 13 year old in the drivers seat of a ferrari and expecting that they will not put their foot down.
This is a level of self control that many adults cannot master. Yet we expect this of children, with brains that are not fully developed into their 20’s.
I have been interested to hear the puplic views expressed by P!nk, Matthew McConahay, Hugh Grant and others speaking out about their personal challenges of parenting their kids in an online world. And how they have made intentional choices about what is right for their family.
We have been guided by the wisdom of educator and author Maggie Dent around our choices around screens.
However, we are not perfect. No parent, child or family are.
All we can do is make the right decision for now. Then, if need be, make the next right decision.
